Salinas scheme hit
The David Salinas scheme that reportedly bilked more than a dozen current and former college coaches and administrators out of millions of dollars also impacted some NBA players. Golden State Warriors forward Ekpe Udoh and former Washington Wizards swingman Cartier Martin were also clients of Salinas, the Houston-area money manager and AAU operator who died of suicide.
Udoh invested $350,000 with Salinas, and Martin lost $374,000. Thirteen college basketball coaches lost almost $8 million with Salinas included Texas Tech coach Billy Gillispie who lost over $2.3 million, former Arizona coach Lute Olson $1.17 million, Baylor coach Scott Drew $621,000 and Gonzaga’s Mark Few $353,000 to name a few.
